Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026
At MarkItDown Legal, privacy isn't just a feature — it's the foundation of what we do. We built this tool specifically for lawyers and legal professionals who handle confidential documents, so we designed everything around one principle: your files should never leave your device.
What We Don't Do
- We don't upload your files to our servers. Period. All PDF conversion happens entirely in your browser using WebAssembly technology.
- We don't store your documents. There's no database of converted files because there are no uploaded files to store.
- We don't read your content. We have no access to the documents you convert. We literally can't see them.
- We don't share data with third parties. There's nothing to share because we collect almost nothing.
What We Do Collect (The Bare Minimum)
To run this website, we collect only the absolute minimum:
- Anonymous analytics: We use privacy-friendly analytics to understand how many people visit the site, which pages are popular, and where users are coming from. This data is aggregated and anonymous. We can't identify individual users.
- Payment information: If you upgrade to Pro, your payment is processed securely by Waffo. We never see or store your credit card details — we only receive a confirmation that payment succeeded.
- Cookies: We use minimal cookies only for essential site functionality and analytics. No tracking cookies, no advertising cookies.
Attorney-Client Privilege
If you're a lawyer using our tool to prepare documents for your clients, attorney-client privilege is fully preserved. Because your documents never leave your device and are never transmitted to our servers, there's no disclosure to a third party that would risk waiving privilege.
This is the reason we built this tool as a fully client-side application. We know that for legal professionals, uploading confidential contracts to a random web server is not an option — no matter what the privacy policy says.
Your Rights
Because we collect almost no personal data, there's very little to request or delete. If you have questions about your privacy, feel free to reach out.
